look south of equator, not north.

Shan....it is highly unlikely that there will be another M8+ quake at 2 deg N, because it already broke there in the M8.7. It is most likely that the next great Sumatra quake would initiate between the equator and 1.5 deg S...and rupture south from there. I have no way of knowing when this will occur...except the current seismicity, including a M6.1 strike-slip event, a M6.8 moderate dip reverse event, and a following M6.4 event with a nearly flat nodal plane.....the last was perhaps on the subduction zone. I do feel that it is somewhat urgent that monitoring, education (what to do to get away from coast if the ground shakes for more than a minute), and a warning system so that it is rapidly reported whether or not a tsunami has been generated...within 15 minutes of the event.

I guess it is OK to have a false alarm on a tsunami and, like the last one, just assume there will be one if the quake is >M8...

Shan...for those who have not been following your posts over the years, you may want to explain how it makes any kind of scientific sense that a shadow on a wall in India can tell you about stress buildup in Sumatra. I certainly do not know.
