Canie...yeah, your idea is similar to that from the Lamont scientist....that perhaps the thrust was too flat. The 2 solutions have either a 4 deg dip or I think 7 deg. The previous one...the 9.3....was pretty flat also....I think it was 10 deg or less. There must be some slop in the solution...so maybe the difference in dip is larger than this....and the difference between 4 deg and 10 deg is large enough to expect different effects. John: would you say within errors the dip of the M9.3 could be the same as the dip of the 8.7 (I suppose averaged over the entire rupture?)
