The USGS NEIC now has it as 8.7. CNN intervued someone at Cocos Island who was at 3 m elevation....he was not washed away..in fact, did not notice anything, so the tsunami there must have been quite a bit smaller...in fact, he seemed rather casual about things....did not even go to nearby cyclone (raised?) shelter...CNN also intervued someone from a relief group who was in small boat (near Sumatra?) and there were some fluctuations in water level but no large wave...
