Re: The Repository - Cathryn Response |
I'm right with you on this one, Petra. Perhaps a separate site for *registered* users to post is a good idea. If someone was abusing the spirit of the list's intent, then they could be deleted from the registered users. The people who fall into this category are the nut jobs who think God speaks only to them through their cats, or that every little hangnail is a portent of future major quakes, etc. You know who I mean. They could easily be eliminated if they were registered, as we all are on Earthwaves. I will write you privately re: several of my concerns. I'm not good with creating the kind of website Canie has created here. I am okay with Yahoo sites (as I'm sure you are), but that is all. I own three adoption-based sites on Yahoo, some with memberships that exceed 1000 members from all over the world. I could certainly put word out on my lists, even those I don't run. The larger question seems to be how to get word out to the masses, not just earthquake sensitives or those with an interest in the field, but primarily to those who happen to notice well water levels changing, or oil seeping from rocks, or earthquake clouds (controversial, I know) who have no vested interest in earthquake prediction, but are merely observant. To do that (it seems) would require a press conference to spread the word that such a site exists, not just postings on earthquake boards where you have a relatively captive audience sometimes inclusive of half-baked personalities. I think registering members would be less stressful in the long run than hitting the delete key over and over again. Do you agree? I wish others here would chime in on this idea. I think it holds merit. Congratulations, Petra, on an interesting and potentially life-saving idea. Any further ideas about disseminatiing info that such a site exists? It has to reach a broad spectrum of the population to be effective, not just known earthquake sensitives. I am sure there are a lot more sensitives than post to the earthquake sites, but may not realize they are sensitive. That's why every earthquake symptom that seems to have merit should be outlined on the home page, so people are forewarned what to look for. I am also convinced that there are a lot of observant people who may not know that what they are observing is an earthquake precursor, but just something out of the ordinary. How can such a site be set up and how can you/we notify the public at large that such a place exists? With your many contacts, perhaps you have more ideas than I do. I remain intrigued. My question to the list is how many scientists on this board think this is a valid idea. We know that such precursors, such as oil-seeping rocks, strange animal behavior, and changing well water levels are known precursors. Some of us know that intuition alone can be a precursor, while others believe that ear tones can be the same. So what does everyone here think of Petra's repository? This is an earthquaake prediction board.
