DETAILS OF ASH CLOUD: AT 1615 UTC A PLUME IS SEEN EXTENDING FROM THE VOLCANO SUMMIT (1159N8610W) TOWARD THE WEST SOUTHWEST TO THE POINT 1142N8647W AND IS 5 KM (2.7 NMI) WIDE.
COLIMA 00-005 MEXICO 1931N 10337W BACKGROUND: COLIMA MEXICO (1401-04) SUMMIT HEIGHT 13451 FT (4100 M) SOURCES OF INFORMATION: MEXICO CITY SIGMET...GOES-8 VISIBLE...INFRARED...AND MULTISPECTRAL IMAGERY. ERUPTION DETAILS: VOLCANIC ASH WAS OBSERVED AT 1331 UTC. DETAILS OF ASH CLOUD: GOES-8 IMAGERY THROUGH 1715 UTC SHOWS NO ASH IN ALMOST CLEAR SKIES. THE ERUPTION OCCURRED JUST PRIOR TO THE FIRST HIGH RESOLUTION VISIBLE IMAGES OF THE DAY AND WAS NOT DISCERNABLE WHEN THEY BEGAN TO ARRIVE AND HAS NOT BEEN SEEN IN INFRARED OR MULTISPECTRAL IMAGERY. ERUPTION DETAILS: SATELLITE IMAGERY DEPICTED A BRIEF ERUPTION AT ABOUT 1415 UTC. DETAILS OF ASH CLOUD: A SHORT DURATION ERUPTION WAS SEEN IN HIGH RESOLUTION VISIBLE SATELLITE IMAGERY AT 1415 UTC. THE ASH WAS SUBSEQUENTLY SEEN TRACKING TO THE WEST SOUTHWEST TOWARD THE PACIFIC OCEAN AND WAS NO LONGER DISCERNABLE BY 1545 UTC.
