By the time the surface waves made it to New, they probably had predominant periods in the tens to hundreds of seconds range, giving them wavelengths of 50 to 1000 km. Those waves can't even tell there are sediments on top of the crust. Still raining, I hate to think of the traffic jams today if there are as many small landslides as there were yesterday.
