Re: is what I am talking about (media) important? |
Hi Chris. I’m not so sure that filling a complaint would do any good. However pointing out that they have an obligation to give accurate information about an incident is paramount. Being first with the news seems to be the watchword, or whatever you want to call it. Accuracy appears to be secondary. At least that is the way it seems to me. I have been watching NHK TV, which is a Japanese news station that is covering the Indonesia earthquake. When ever possible they have a seismologist, geologist, and or a volcanologist to explain the technical details. Then they will have a special program usually within a couple of months showing in great detail what happened and why. The program can be anywhere from 1 hour to 2 hours long. The nice thing about it is that there are no commercials to interrupt the program and for the most part is presented in a way that most people can understand in that they use lots of pictures and graphs and plain language so that it is understandable. You must do what you feel is right Chris. Only you can be the judge of that. I don’t know how many people watch CNN, but maybe, just maybe had they got in contact with someone at the “Tsunami Warning Center” they could have made the suggestion that this quake could cause tsunamis that could affect the whole region. Had CNN broadcasted that a couple of times a lot of lives may have been saved. Let your heart be your guide. If you feel that it would be the right thing to do, then don’t let anyone talk you out it.
