I did not see mention of earthwaves in your link. Since I'm on a sort of a crusade on poor science coverage, I want to see what he had to say (I skimmed the linked article).
OK, I'm going to email the New York Times public editor about their errors, which they have not corrected....they hired the public editor after their scandal(s) with a reporter making up stories.
