Hi All. Just out of curiosity I contacted the Crescent City Chamber of Commerce in regards to the tsunamis that struck them after the 1964 Alaska quake. The reply was that there were 4 waves. It was the forth wave that did the damage. It was 21 feet high.

I know the first wave hit at low tide. The other 3 struck at high tide. This goes to show that the first couple of waves may not be the ones you should be concerned about although that doesn’t mean you can go down to the beach and watch them come in. I think a good rule of thumb should be not to go near the beach or go into low areas open to the beach until well after what appears to be the last tsunami has arrived. Take Care…Don in creepy town
