| M7.3 S of New Zealand |
There was a M7.3 a couple hours ago south of the south island of New Zealand...widely felt but little or no damage because it was pretty far offshore. Focal mechanism is mostly reverse/thrust. This plate boundary is more right-lateral than thrust as you go farther south...on S Island the Alpine Fault is right-oblique reverse...not sure of proportions (1/2 and 1/2?). French news showed damage on Guadalupe Island from the M6.3 there...1/3 of houses on S part of island damaged or destroyed... |
