Hi Bob, I used to have a contact who lived very close to the San Diego zoo and he would tell me what animals were acting up in voice before earthquakes happened. He was asleep when Hector Mine arrived but his 3 dogs let him know it was time to get up. He said they were jumping on his bed, barking, howling and generally going nuts. Just as he awakened and stood up the quake occurred and he fell back onto the bed. He contacted the zoo for me after the quake and they said of all of their animals the one's that were the most upset were the lions. I would have thought it would have been the birds. The best animal behavior reports that I ever saw on Berkland's board was when a woman from Tracy, CA was observing and reporting the behavior of wild rabbits in a field next to her residence. Strangely enough when those rabbits would run in circles and go crazy, shortly after a quake of around 3.5 or greater would occur. It never failed the entire time she was posting. At that time Mammoth was very active. I think this was in 1998 or 1999. It really takes a group of people in an area that isn't widely spread to do this kind of an open survey and I'm afraid for this board we are to far apart to accomplish much by doing it. Good thought though. Petra
