I was curious about who is looking at this page (who our audience is), or is it just a dozen or 2 of us checking several times a day. So, I asked Canie for where the hits were coming from, and she sent a list to me, and gave OK to post a general description.
For a month ending before Parkfield, there were 300 hits/day. I made 0.7% of these.

some of the hits are probably from search engines:

There are probably a couple of dozen people regularly hitting (daily or more often), plus there were 1969 hits from AOL (26.5%) and 1,215 unresolved. So, maybe a few dozen daily regular visitors, some search engines...logically some people who do a search for something and end up on the site. Relatively few hits are from academic addresses...you can see John coming in from UCLA, and a few hits from USGS, and some from the UK, and that is about it (but, I usually come in from optonline, not an .edu address).

The reason I wanted to know this is that I sometimes spend a fair amount of time trying to make an informative post, and want to know if it is worth it. Even if no one was reading it maybe I'd still post to amuse myself, but knowing that the page is a little more widely read than I thought may make me be more careful of some things that I post....but probably not...
