Hi Chris,

I thought if they said they were a meterologist that meant that they had some special weather related education. This would mean they are field reporting meterologists (weather people), not just TV reporters.

So wouldn't it be like a seismologist on scene reporting what was going on, such as providing information about the original earthquake and subsequent aftershocks?

Between you and I, it seems to me the younger less experienced field reporting meterologists are those we see on TV during hurricanes because the more experienced ones have already had the experience and know better than to go out again.

But as to news reporters covering earthquakes, they often make erroneous reports and I think it could be simply because they don't understand scientific terms and they also like to put their own spin on things. However, I do think for the most part they did cover KB's forecast and his background information fairly well. When they brought Bryant Gumble and the Today Show to an area close to the Cypress Structure in Oakland after Loma Prieta he let it be known he felt rather uncomfortable.
