After getting off the plane for the SCEC meeting at Palm Springs into the desert air, and spending several days in desert air, my nose just had to be picked. But every time I thought of furtively picking it, I thought of Petra, and before long I had a snotsickle. Having gone thought this frightening experience, I applaud the scientist for making sure that he did not have a snotsickle during his talk, which would have been distracting. Also, after Petra's post of last week on how women earthscientists dress, I made sure to tell them how to dress at the meeting. Instead of thanking me for my concern, they beat the crap out of me. Women geoscientists are pretty burly and some carry rock hammers.
