There is plenty of elastic strain buildup on the faults that bound Ventura basin even after subtracting the effect from sediment compaction. And, that part of the strain may only be shifted a little ways to other faults....and the subsurface conditions are so bad in western Ventura basin that the seismic waves are going to amplify and reflect around off the basin walls for an earthquake near but outside of the basin (OK, they will do that even for a quake 50 km away.....Chris Follow Ups: ● Re: not such good news - Cathryn 19:14:35 - 9/17/2004 (22893) (0) |
