Here's a new one: MASAYA 00-002 NICARAGUA 1159N 8610W BACKGROUND: MASAYA NICARAGUA (1404-10) SUMMIT HEIGHT 2083 FT (635 M) SOURCES OF INFORMATION: GOES-8 VISIBLE...INFRARED...AND MULTISPECTRAL IMAGERY. ERUPTION DETAILS: LOW LEVEL CONTINUOUS ASH EMISSION. DETAILS OF ASH CLOUD: GOES-8 IMAGERY THROUGH 2015 UTC STILL SHOWS A VERY FAINT LOW LEVEL PLUME OF ASH AND PROBABLY GAS EMANATING FROM MASAYA. STRONG WINDS OFF THE COAST IS ALSO PICKING UP SOME DUST AS SEEN ALONG THE WESTERN COASTS OF THE COUNTRIES SURROUNDING NICARAGUA. THUS THE PLUME IS MOSTLY DUST AND GAS. THIS IS EVIDENT IN THE LACK OF AN ASH SIGNATURE IN ALL THREE MULTISPECTRAL CHANNELS. HOWEVER THERE IS STILL A DANGER OF ASH MIXING INTO THE ATMOSPHERE SO AVIATION HAZARD IN THE REGION IS STILL A CONCERN. IF WE SEE ANY INCREASED ACTIVITY WE WILL ISSUE A WARNING STATEMENT.
