Hi e. There is no law in the world that any government could pass that will prevent any and all viruses from getting into anyone’s computer. Both of my ISPs use antivirus programs to check my e-mail before I read it. If it is a known virus or a metamorphic one their programs will block it. The antivirus program I use will do the same thing. I also use a firewall, which also increase my security. However there is no foolproof system. My firewall blocks more then 100 attempts per day to enter my computer through an open port. These most likely aren’t virus that someone is attempting to install in my computer. They are most likely trojans or worms. A good majority of the blocks are my ISP pinging my system to insure I have a good connection. Most of the other attempts are from China, Korea, and Central and South America. It tells me the ISP and the country they are in, but not the person who is attempting to enter my computer. If I want to know I can send an inquiry to my firewall provider and they make the inquiry. This way I’m kept out of the loop. This is done this way because the people looking for open ports never see my computer. They don’t even know it is up and running because they get no response from it. I would suggest that instead or relying on someone else to protect you you should provide for your own protection. Keep in mind though that there is no foolproof system and only a fool would think differently. I have used computers that have mechanical filters, but the biggest problem with them is that they slow down the traffic and are cost prohibit to home users. I really doubt that you had anything to do with the action the government is trying to take now in regards to viruses. People with more money and clout then you have have been suggesting the government get involved for quite a spell now. It wasn’t until the government itself got hit that they thought it was time to step in. Anyway it isn’t about viruses. It’s about spam. More money and time is being lost because of spam. Hundreds of millions of dollars are lost each year because of spam. Take Care…Don in creepy town
