Here are a few excerpts from a news article on these quakes: (for full article, see link below)

Lakeview residents felt the jolt of a magnitude 4.4 earthquake early Wednesday morning, the latest and largest of about three dozen quakes to rattle the remote south-central Oregon region in the past week.
....

Seismologist Tony Qamar of the University of Washington and geologist Ian Madin of the Oregon Department of Geology and Mineral Industries have determined that most of the quakes are centered about eight to 12 miles southeast of Lakeview and east of Goose Lake.

Madin and Qamar suspect the Goose Lake Fault may be associated with the quakes. The fault -- actually a complex "fault zone" containing multiple fractures -- runs beneath Lakeview in a north-south direction on the western edge of the Warner Mountains.

Bill Steele, coordinator of the UW seismology lab where Northwest quakes are monitored, said the quake flurry "can be quite energetic and go on for a bit. It's unlikely we've seen the end of this, and we could see vigorous aftershocks."

Oregon geologist Vicki McConnell said the quakes are typical in Southeastern Oregon, which has numerous faults. Much of the region is in the northwest corner of the Basin and Range geologic province, where the crust slowly is being pulled apart in an east-west direction in a process known as extension.
