Hi Kiddo. The Loma Prieta quake was 27 miles NNW of where I live. My mother at the time of quake lived a couple of miles east of the quake. You can see Loma Prieta from where she lived. There was very little property damage in Morgan Hill. Can’t say that for the nerves though.

My Aunt lived in the same mobile home park that my Mother did and I was sort of amazed at the damage done to my Aunts home. About every 5 panel on the skirting of the home had a big dent in the bottom of it. Not sure if the ground coming up did that or the home going down did it. Anyway none of the homes came off the blocks, or jacks they were sitting on. In the park where I live we had a number of homes come down. Most of those were set up north and south and were on jacks. They say jacks are the worse things to use when setting up mobile homes, as they tend to tip very easy.

My Aunt who lives in Paradise Valley (that’s the area I took you, Shannon and Jen when we went to Parkfield) lives in a quonset hut had almost no damage at all. Some dishes slid off the drain board and that was it. The old barn that looks like it would fall down if you blew on it stayed up. The spring they use for house water increased its flow for a couple of months after the quake, but I understand it has returned too normal. There was no change noted before the quake. There was no change in the second spring. There was a slight change in the third spring, which they use to water the cattle. All in all it was a pretty exciting quake. Definitely an attention getter.
