Deadly Morocco earthquake – another timely warning

Reports are stating that the following earthquake claimed more than 500 lives.

2004/02/24 02:27:46 35.22N 3.95W 1.4 6.4 NEAR NORTH COAST OF MOROCCO

This is probably the earthquake I was trying to warn people about when I posted the following note. Around that time I also circulated an international warning.

The following warning was posted here well before an earthquake in Bam, Iran which claimed tens of thousands of lives. Also around that time I circulated international warnings.

As I have said in the past, it is my personal opinion that the claim frequently made by many government officials and members of the scientific community that “Earthquakes can’t be predicted” actually often represents a deadly case of laziness, a lack of concern for human life, and “tunnel vision.” People are seeing what they want to see. And too bad if that costs lives.

Also in my opinion, the constant claim that the only good earthquake forecast is one which is accurate to within a few seconds and a few feet is just another example of laziness. Data from multiple moderately accurate forecasts could be combined to produce a single accurate one if the people who are supposed to be doing this type of work were interested in making the effort.
