What you discussed regarding strain buildup is probably accepted by most people including me. What I am asking about is the next step. When the earthquake is just about to occur, does something we can observe or measure push it over the top at a specific time. What I outlined were two theories for forces which might possibly do that.

It doesn’t sound like anyone has any opinions on them. I am also planning to ask the question in the Newsgroups.

This is not just a matter of scientific curiosity. My forecasting program depends upon determining when those triggering times are occurring. And it is important to develop an understanding of what the active forces are. There has been a lot of research done on this. I was just wondering if anyone posting notes here knew about any of it.
