Hi Chris. Not sure if this is what you’re looking for, or if it will be of any help. There is a Thomas Gold who believes that erupting gas may be the cause of earthquakes. He has written an article stating that the New Madrid quake was caused by erupting gas. My thoughts are that it could have been the other way around and that is that the quake caused the gas to erupt.
