Palos Verdes |
Joan, I have not seen you post before, hello. "Is there a relationship" is pretty vague-they are both right-lateral strike-slip faults near the southern California coast, one with 3 mm/yr slip rate and the other with 2 mm/yr for the last few ka. I have not actually looked at seismic reflection (acoustic) data between about Palos Verdes and Oceanside. But, I have no reason to think that the shallow Palos Verdes fault is directly connected to the Rose Canyon fault (from other people's work). It is more likely that the Newport-Inglewoood fault is linked with, or even continuous with, the Rose Canyon fault. All bets are off at depth-the region is underlain by low-angle (gently sloping) faults that might serve to transfer displacement between faults.......Chris Follow Ups: ● Re: Palos Verdes - Canie 21:58:59 - 11/27/2003 (20298) (1) ● Re: Palos Verdes - Joan Chesleigh-Blaine 10:26:03 - 11/28/2003 (20302) (0) |
