Hi John. Just out of curiosity I ran a check on nuclear detonations for a 10-year period viruses quakes. I used a 50 mile radius of the epicenters of the detonations for quakes M>4 and larger.

There were 295 detonations the 50s. There were 693 in the 60s. There were 537 in the 70s and 451 in the 80s. I chose the Nevada test site as my target (37.07 –116.02) I used the ANSS catalog with a 80Km radius.

There were two quakes in the 40s and 50s. This might be due to insufficient number of seismographs to detect the quakes. In the 60s there were 46 counting 2 M> 5.0+ quakes.

In the 70s there were 69 counting 4 M>5.0+ quakes

In the 80s there were 23 counting 6 M>5.0+ quakes

In the 90s there were 26 counting 4 M>5.0+ quakes

In the 60s and 70s there was a marked increase in M>3.0 to 3.9 quakes with very few M>2.0 quakes.

In the 80s to current time the M>2.0+ quakes rose with the largest majority of them occurring in the 90s. This may be due the activity at Long Valley Caldera.

I suppose depending on ones frame of mind something could be said about nuclear detonations causing earthquakes or shutting them down. It largely depends on how you use the data. Take Care…Don in creepy town
