biweekly tides |
C We saw either no effect, or perhaps a small effect, like a 5-10% change in the risk of earthquake with the phase of the two-week tides for the Bay Area or the Pacific Northwest. This is not the twice-daily rise and fall of the tides, but rather the twice-a-month oscillation in the amplitude of the tides. No significant effect was visible in the global set of large (M>5.5) earthquakes. We were only strongly testing whether tides effect quakes; Jim also uses a lot of irreproducible indicators, like lost pets and psychics, which we didn't include.
