USGS now lists this a 7.8M quake. As with the Hokkaido 8.3M, it comes a week BEFORE the perigee, which is the same day as the new moon on November 23. This perigee is the closest of the year, so I expect another big run of quakes, unless it is delayed again by the return of the big sunspots. I think we should know shortly which direction the seismic energy has gone, but the window from the Moment Sensor Solution is 180 degrees with the axis to the southeast and transtectonic Pacific plate. So far there is a chain of 5.xM aftershocks, which may mean more volcanic triggering.

So we wait and see.
