Don-there was a high flux of protons starting soon after the X8 flare, so it is a proton event. Flare levels are measured by Xray flux, so if it is an X class flare, it is high in x-rays by definition. The magnetic storm (Kp) just arrived-it took longer to get here than the storms for the X17 and X11 flares last week.
NEIC has not caught up on listing last weekend's earthquakes, but I don't see a big flare up-not really anything unusual-maybe the M7 E coast Honshu, but 1 quake does not make a pattern.
