X class flare the other day

There was an X class flare-probably X1, the other day. Not only is this the first X class flare in a long time, the sun has been really quiet for a couple of weeks and there were not even M class flares for an extended period. So, if the flares themselves can trigger anything, then this would be as good a time as any for a trigger. But, I find the flares as a trigger even more unlikely than that geomagnetic storms measured on the ground might trigger something. And, there are storms without flares-for example, on and off over the last week. There is an ongoing Kp5 (in the red zone, but probably classed as "minor storm", today. I've never seen any relation demonstrated on this page between flares and quakes, or storms and quakes. Sure, claimed, but not demonstrated. I'd have to re-read Lowell's thesis to see how strong any correlations seem in there. But, I really think simple graphs like Roger had been doing for FFAs are the way to go for this page.

So, why am I wasting words on this if I don't believe it? Actually, anecdotally it seems to me that something could be going on with, for example, north american intraplate earthquakes and strong geomagnetic storms....or, maybe I'm fooling myself.....Chris
