A change of directions

Let me propose moving in another direction for a moment.

In post #19706 I believe that you mentioned something about my forecasting technology being a little difficult to understand. And so in post #19710 I responded and tried presenting the information with a different view and asked if you thought it might be clearer. I have not yet seen a response from you. Considering how rapidly these discussions move along and down the list that is not too surprising.

The use of such “synthetic” ocean tide data appears to me to have some value. If I remember correctly, there was a publication in the June, 2002 issue of Geology magazine which reported on hundreds of low magnitude earthquakes which were detected near the Axial volcano off the U.S. West Coast. And if you looked at one of the charts I believe that it was obvious that many of them were occurring at the same time that there was a low ocean tide in the area.

I obtained quite a few of the original data for those earthquakes etc. and began examining them. There was one particular group that I was interested in where the earthquakes occurred around the time of high tide instead of low tide. If I recall correctly the first one in the group was exactly at high tide time. Then the next one was a little off the tide peak. And the third and forth were even farther off a tide peak.

As my 19710 post proposed, you can have a computer create a type of “synthetic” ocean tide wave which is designed to match earthquake occurrence times like that. I did something like that years ago. And I believe I can recall that when I plotted those four Axial volcano area earthquakes on that synthetic wave they matched the wave peaks perfectly.

An important point from this is that there is more taking place here than you can determine from simply observing standard data such as ocean tide crest and trough times. And although it is possible to generate synthetic data which are a good match with what is taking place, an accurate geophysical model which can explain the subject matter is still somewhere off over the horizon. Theories which I am presently considering propose that these processes might be linked with the sun – Earth – moon barycenter (center of mass) which is down a ways inside the Earth, which is constantly shifting position, and around which the Earth rotates once each month. The Earth’s Polar motion including seasonal wobble and Chandler’s wobble might be involved.

Regardless, the main goal here is to save lives. So use whatever works. Developing an understanding of what is actually happening can wait.
