Cathryn, Your Mulholland Terrace house sounds like the site of the recent Laural Canyon movie, the one movie I've seen in the last two years, aside from on airplanes. Couldn't pass up a movie set just a mile or two away. UES started up in 1882 and moved to campus in 1947, perhaps a bit before your time. That Sylmar quake is now usually called the San Fernando quake, and surprised most people in LA. Let me know when the next one is coming, we're not doing so well predicting them in academia. If I knew how you knew, I'd write it up so that you'd also know how you knew. Predictably, I'm a skeptic, but won't rule out what I don't understand.
