MAP 4.2 1999/12/23 06:30:54 34.588N 116.261W 5.5 18 km (11 mi) SSW of Ludlow, CA This occurred just prior to: TUNGURAHUA 99-284 ECUADOR 1.47S 78.44W BACKGROUND: TUNGURAHUA ECUADOR (1502-08) SUMMIT HEIGHT 16480 FT (5023 M) SOURCES OF INFORMATION: GOES-8 VISIBLE AND INFRARED AND MULTISPECTRAL IMAGERY...GEOPHYSICAL INSTITUTE REPORT...0600 UTC AVIATION MODEL WIND FORECAST. ERUPTION DETAILS: NEW ASH PLUME AT 23/1315 UTC. DETAILS OF ASH: THE LATEST SATELLITE IMAGERY THRU 1345 UTC SHOWS A NEW PLUME OF ASH AND STEAM MOVING SOUTHWESTWARD FROM THE VOLCANO. THE PLUME IS ESTIMATED AT FL230. THE LEADING EDGE OF THE PLUME IS AT 41 KM ( 22 NMI) FROM THE SUMMIT. THE PLUME EXTENDS FROM 1.47S 78.44W TO 1.74S 78.69W.
