M7.1 New zealand, 3.5 Quebec

There was a M7.1 at the SW tip of the south Island of New Zealand today-I think this is near the Alpine fault-the main plate boundary fault. The focal mechanism is mainly thrust. the Alpine fault is about half thrust and half right-lateral....(I think). There was a M3.5 in Quebec. If someone wants to say that this is related to the high Kp yetserday and a few days ago, they could do that. the general Quebec-Northern New York area might be sensitive to solar weather-at least Lowell would say that.....might want to run this area by Don's list of Proton flares (but, there was not a X-ray flare associated this time-just a M class).
