That China earthquake sounds like it had some rather serious consequences in additions to the fatalities. News reports are stating that a million people were affected. Many are running short on food partly because of all of the storage buildings which were destroyed.

Although their building construction may be poor in many areas they are probably running the most ambitious earthquake forecasting program of any country on Earth. And as far as I can tell they might be the only country which has programs in place for getting entire cities evacuated when they think that an earthquake could be about to occur.
