Re: Solar Flare Today/For Those Interested |
Canie, Petra, there were a couple of X1s or maybe an X2 the other day. I did not bother to post them because I'm not seeing anything much happening associated with them. Petra might want to reword how she writes about flares: instead of a flare "hitting" in one particular spot, one particular spot is "subsolar". Logically, the electromagnetic radiation (e.g., X-rays) from a flare will impact the whole side of the earth facing the sun. Petra posted a list of earthquakes and claimed 8 of them were in the region of Indonesia. I only saw about 3 on the list near Indonesia. So, Petra may want to define what she means more precisely, or some of the posts don't make sense. The last X flares were about the same time as a couple M3+s in Brawley seismic zone and an increase in activity at Geysers. Hard to say if there is any relation. I did not note the times so don't know how close in time. There was a M4.5 along the Saint Lawrence River in Quebec the other day. The sun has been active for a while-lots of M class flares. If one wanted to, one could claim either that this quake was a delayed affect of the X class flares, was triggered by one of the many M class flares, or was triggered by some limited geomagnetic storminess. It is easy to claim a relationship, but hard to demonstrate it...
