Petra, I agree that this may have to be looked at by region, but you may need to define what you mean by "point of impact" (I think you mean the area that is subsolar at the time of a flare) and what you mean by "fringes" (do you mean the edge of the Aurora?). If it is the geomagnetic storms that are triggering the quakes and not the X-rays (the electromagnetic radiation that arrives in 8 minutes, at the speed of light), then there is no reason why the subsolar point is relevant.
