offshore faults |
Chris, There seems to be reluctance of SCEC to study the offshore seriously. Maybe the cost of ocean-bottom seismometers? I heard the off-shore was mentioned at the planning meeting for Earthscope in Denver last week, but again the cost is a disincentive, even for such a large project. The tendency of faults offshore to be strike-slip lets people relax about their tsunamogenic potential, although wasn't there a strong event offshore in 1927(?) that shook LA or Santa Barbara well?
