Re: Tsunami Danger - SOCAL |
I guess there's been little research into the evidence of Tsunamis in the Southern Cal area - Since we're so well developed along the coast, most of the evidence is long gone. I think there are places where you might find some evidence still. Areas like Balona Creek would be one place to look. Maybe Bolsa Chica Wetlands... This might be an interesting project. From what I understand, a good shaker out on the San Clemente fault around Catalina, will send a tsunami our way and really no time to even do much about it. There are a few offshore/onshore faults that could cause a landslide at sea and send a tsunami our way. I know most of downtown Long Beach, Belmont Shores and the Naples area are at risk. I wonder if being inland 3.5 miles is far enough? It seems like it should be. We're also about 2 miles west of the San Gabriel river channel if it comes surging up that route. I think our altitude is about 57 feet. Canie Follow Ups: ● Re: Tsunami Danger - SOCAL - chris in suburbia 13:49:38 - 2/8/2003 (18014) (0) |
