Re: Now I'm worried...ok, but... |
Thanks Chris - I seem to recall a conversation with Lucy Jones a couple years ago after the Hector quake I think where she was mentioning the rotation - south of the garlock - mohave block in clockwise and then north of the garlock (sierra block) in a counter clockwise rotation (my memory is sure weak)... I wondered why the Santa Barbara mountains weren't growing more or getting squeezed by this action. Maybe Tanya Atwater knows more details on this subject...Ahh.. I found a paper by her with this subject but its mainly on the transverse ranges and the channel islands. Here's another interesting proposal to further research the subject and how it affects the Ventura Basin: Resolving the Effects of Rotation, Subsidence and Sediment Compaction on Geodetic Strain: A Dense Cluster for the Ventura Basin, Western Transverse Ranges Just a thought - but maybe that's what's causing Arvin to rock and roll so much (block rotation) - I think Kate hutton mentioned it was thrust mechanism going on there. As to impatience with the other - I understand. No need to write for 2 hours for me! I think a basic geology course would answer 99% of the questions - the problem with these things is they are not based on factual data. Its based on a 'True belief' and there's no sense in even trying to argue. Canie |
