Earthquake Signatures

Hi All,

I had the opportunity this morning to catch the San Leandro earthquake on Momento Mori. As an avid viewer of this marvelous creation in time you notice little sublties and today was a good one.

It was just last week that the San Ramon quakes were registering on Mori, but they were in the 3's when the banding from top to bottom occurred. Don pointed out to me to pay attention to the number of times the banding crossed the screen and that would be an indicator of how large the quake would be.

So as I'm watching it this morning, I noticed a variance in the pattern it had been displaying to the next one that started and shortly thereafter, the San Leandro quake struck. It sent the bands top to bottom through two sweeps across the screen and then trailed off. But it was interesting because I could tell that the quake did not occur in San Ramon, as the trail off signature (pattern) was not like San Ramon. There was a wide difference between the two.

Of course there are a lot of reasons why they are not the same, but I wanted to point out to other avid Mori watchers to keep an eye on the ending segment of a quake series and you too will see what I mean. I think with enough viewing time invested, and a good supply of quakes in a short period of time, it may be possible for people to know which area the quakes are occurring in before they check them out on the EQ maps.

All I've got to say, is Long Live Mori, I love that little device.
