Hi Kiddo. This mornings Parkfield quake was on the eastern side of the fault and a couple miles NW of Middle Mountain.

The 02/26/1999 quake occurred almost directly under Middle Mountain at 0825 in the morning and is about 4 miles NW of Parkfield. We see it every time we come down Vineyard Canyon Road.

The difference between what they felt that morning and what wasn’t felt this morning might be due to the way the energy propagated and what the majority of the people were doing at the time the quake occurred.

This morning’s quake is also close to some thrust faults so there is a chance that the quake occurred on one of them.
