I have often wondered if the same thing could happen between Beaumont and Palm Springs in the San Gorgonio Pass. Quite a complex fault system there that could set off towards Landers, the SAF and the San Jacinto and Elsinore faults.

Certainly nothing scientific to go on that I am aware of, but this rank amateur has always wondered.
