Earthquakes at great depths |
One earthquake theory that I have seen discussed proposes that some earthquakes which occur at great depths result from changes in the molecular structure of the rock rather than shifting tectonic plates. The structural change produces a change in density. And a type of "void" is created. Earthquakes then occur as the crust shifts to fill the void. I wonder if that earthquake would fit into that category.
