Hi All, Well, I made mention of how long it had been since the last large earthquake last night and sure enough Mother Nature delivered today with the 7.3 on the Russian/China border. Therefore, its time to decide who the winner of the Going Global Earthquake Contest is. To revisit the contest rules, here they are: So here are the rules: Pick three area's where a 6.9+ quake will occur next. There is no window, no mags to guess, just pick three area's. I'm stretching the area's rather than asking for cities as we are talking global quakes and not some area's like CA where we are all to familiar with city and place names. So for instance, if you want to say Indonesia, that's fine, or you can be a little more specific and say Sumatera, Indonesia. An extra word won't hurt just in case it makes your winning entry a little more specific. So put on your thinking caps, let your ESP take you where it may and go for it! Name three places and may the best "Global Predictor" win. These were the entries: Brian in San Francisco: Southern CA, Chile, Crete Don in Hollister - Volcano Island Canie: Talaud Islands, Indonesia Cathryn: Off the coast of N. New Zealand, Hokaido, Southern Greece Jim W.: The great rift valley in Africa, Antarctic, Iceland Our two closest entries were supplied by Don in Hollister and Cathryn. Cathryn wins this one being approximately 520 miles from the epicenter and Don comes in second at 897 miles away. All in all, not so bad when one considers how many possibilities there were for this unknown event. Congratulations Cathryn! You are the official winner of the Going Global Big Time Earthquake Contest. Petra
