Hi Lowell & 2 Cents, Don and I sat in on an oral presentation at the AGU two years ago and the topic was about the influence of the Landers/Big Bear Quake and how each presenter felt these had eventually caused stress distribution to activate the Hector Mines quake. In particular one of the young ladies who made a presentation explained how she had "moved" the smaller earthquakes in the catalog to new locations. This puzzled me greatly as I wasn't sure what she was talking about, but now I know. Clearly she meant that she had re-adjusted the locations of those earthquakes to their correct positions and after doing so a noticeable pattern emerged which showed how the quakes had migrated toward Hector Mines. The bottom line as one puts it and was summarized by a presentation from Max Wyss was that the Hector Mine event should have been expected. This of course also falls I believe within the same thought process as the noticeable Butterfly pattern which emerged after the Northridge quake. Correct me if I'm wrong on this one, my memory isn't that sharp right now. But I'm glad you brought this up 2 Cents because it finally gave me an answer to a 1 1/2 year question I had and for some reason never thought to ask anyone about it. Thank you Lowell for answering it. Petra
