Hi Lowell:

I think you misunderstood my question.

True, the descrepancies and the problems of epicentral determination are known by many casual observers and others.

My question regards the selection process by which only a small subset of seismos are displayed on the EMSC web-site. IOW, why is seismo "A" versus seismo "B" selected for display (keeping in mind that hundreds/K's of them no doubt recorded the same signal source). (This question should probably be directed to the EMSC web-site folks).

For example, in the listing provided in the first post, why was that particular one chosen over say another seismo 500 km away (somewhere else)? EMSC generally posts just a handful of seismo "hits" for each event. My question regards which ones they chose to display (out of many hundreds/K's). I suppose they wish to form some type of geometric triangle in order to determine/set the location (but surely there must be many many candidates to choose from to do this). Maybe it's just first "x" ones which report in "win" as far as being posted on EMSC.

p.s. (Any bugs biting up in Maine there?)
