Roger, there has been lots of discussion on this page about FFAs and solar triggering of earthquakes. But, it is difficult for the casual observer to tell how significant the relationships are. Instead of new programs, you could use your existing program to plot all global earthquakes over, say M4.5 on the FFA map, and everytime a M7 or over occurs, produce FFA rings for that. Perhaps do that for every 1 day for a year, save the 365 images at the same scale, and animate it using, for example, Powerpoint. Maybe have the rings shown for 10 days before and after a M7. Or, if you don't have Powerpoint, provide the images to someone who does who wants to take this on (Hmm, I have Powerpoint, what am I getting into here). Then, stick the animation on a web site (Hmm, I have a web site, but I'm not sure that I'm competent to do this...it would be much better if Canie could do this on the Earthwaves site. Or, if that is too much work, take the M7 earthquakes and put the global seismicity for each for the 10 following days, and 10 preceding days, on separate plots-you'd only need 2 of these for each M7. There will either be a clear correlation, an unclear possible correlation, or there will be no correlation. I think doing this visually like this will be far more powerful than fancy statistics. If there is a clear correlation, then contact Lowell and maybe you could try and publish this. Or, make a website as a publication (you/Lowell will not get full credit with a website, but it is easier than a publication.
You don't get to select which year. You can start with 2001 and 2002 to date. If you want more, than work backwards....1999.

I also have suggestions about solar flares/Kp index vs global earthquakes-that could be done as just a series of bar graphs. Chris
