Well, as Don always says, "We shall see." Maybe. Geotime is so—— well, glacial.

Then again, it only takes an instant.

If I'm not mistaken, Horst's theory involves the southern section of the Pacific plate fusing with the N. American plate, while sections to the east of it rupture. This because of the big bend in the SAF preventing lateral (northern) strike slip. So the southland is either grinding counterclockwise, or (shudder) subducting beneath the N. American plate. Have I got that right?

Whatever is going on down there, it sure would be nice if those big ones moved east to less populated areas. (My apologies to anyone living in SE Calif.)
