See Post 15221 for just one example of how there are things besides solar flares that may trigger quakes: GEOMAGNETIC/SOLAR FIELDS Delayed effects from the recent strong geomagnetic storms were probably important in the timing of the Balkans and the Andreanoff Islands earthquakes today. Strong events often follow X-class solar flares 3-5 days later in sub- and anti-solar regions. The geomagnetic field, however was at quiet conditions today. The proton storm was reaching background proton flux. As this occurs, electrons are more able to form ring currents and associated earthquake triggering often occurs in higher latitudes and along the geomagnetic equator in addition to the areas already under seismic watch conditions from the storms and flares. One M-class solar flare was recorded today with the following parameters:
