Hi All. Wonder why it has gotten so quiet in the area of Mammoth Lakes? Most particularly the area just south of Long Valley Caldera. This would be around 37.480N/118/800W.

For many years after the four M6.0 quakes in 1980 this area was indicating quakes almost everyday. Most were never felt.

About a year ago (when I first noted it) the activity appeared to be decreasing with a surge in quake activity now and then. Now it appears that there is very little to no activity there.

Just thought that after all of the past activity it seemed rather odd not to see a small cluster of quakes south of the caldera. I guess even earthquakes have to take a rest now and then. Take Care…Don in creepy town
