Not sure where you are getting your information, but the California earthquake listing
shows several events in the southern California region in the past 24 hours (see
link below).
I certainly concur with you that this is a striking quiescence, however, with today
being a good example. It has now been 25+ days since the last event of Ml>=3 in
the region 32.5 - 36N 125-115W. The contest is still on for the first such event
to break the quiet.

My records show no days in the past 20 years when no earthquakes were recorded
of any size in the southern California area.
